Educational Technology and Copyright Law


  • Copyright is a United States federal law that protects original “works of authorship” which include literary, written, dramatic, artistic, musical and certain other types of works.
  • You have four rights when using copyrighted work
    • use the copyrighted work
    • show the copyrighted work publicly
    • prepare your work based on the copyrighted product
    • Distribute copies of the copyrighted work to the public
  • To use copyrighted work fairly use these step
    • always reference to the original work
    • bring up the nature of the work
  • For class work projects you are allowed to use images from the internet
  • Many images are licenced
